INTRODUCTION TO GNHTD
The Greater New Haven Transit District (GNHTD) is one of fourteen regional transit districts in the State of Connecticut. GNHTD is a government agency established in 1973 under the provision of Connecticut Public Act 261, Chapter 103(a) for the purpose of operating and providing a variety of transportation programs and services. This provides direct transportation services as well as providing vehicles to municipalities and community agencies in the greater New Haven region for their own respective transportation programs.
GNHTD also provides training to the public and other organizations. We are currently accepting enrollment for classes in defensive driving and transporting passengers with special needs.
THE DEFENSIVE DRIVING COURSE
The National Safety Council's Defensive Driving Course (DDC-8/6) set the standard for driver improvement training with its introduction in 1964. More than 60 million drivers worldwide have been trained since then.
The Defensive Driving Course has the highest rate of success in reducing the number and severity of collisions, and their related costs.
Courts, state departments of motor vehicles, insurance companies, municipalities, businesses, government agencies and driving schools trust NSC for quality driver improvement training.
The DDC-8/6 is a comprehensive driver improvement program with a basic six to eight hour curriculum. The course is interactive and designed to give drivers practical knowledge and techniques to avoid collisions and violations, and to choose safe, responsible and lawful driving behaviors, including but not limited to the following:
The physical forces of a collision
How drugs and alcohol effect your driving
Avoiding collisions choosing safe, legal behaviors
Dealing with driver distractions and fatigue
